Nita C. from @loveteachbless
Behind the Teacher is a series that celebrates the whole teacher. e2e gets to know our favorite teachers on a deeper level to learn what makes them unique, interesting and fun!
Nita is my nickname. My real name is E'Manita. I am named after my grandmother Emma. I have had many nicknames! Nita, E, Emma...I'm okay with any of those.
If you were given $200 that you had to spend on yourself, what would you buy?
I would probably buy some funky and fun t-shirts with some wording on it that tells about me, what I believe in, or what I love! Ha! Even though I need to buy real clothes...that is what I probably would buy. I would also buy diverse children's books. I will spend my last dime on books...seriously. They just keep stacking up.
Think about yourself at the age you are currently teaching. How would you describe yourself at that age?
Well, right now I am an Instructional Coach. But if I were to choose the last grade I taught that would be 1st grade. In 1st grade, I would describe myself as a child who was shy, drawn in, a rule follower and scared to speak up. I wasn't the child with the highest grades in the class and I wasn't the one with the lowest. I was an average student who got overlooked. That's why when I heard the phrase, "there will be no ghosts in this classroom." I loved it. We can't forget about the shy ones--the ones who are scared to speak up.
Favorite self-care routine or ritual
If I am at home and need some self-care, I love to take a hot bubble bath, put on my fuzzy pants, fuzzy socks and a t-shirt. Sometimes this ritual includes a beverage of some sort. If I am out and about, at work, etc..., deep breathing and prayer in a quiet room really does wonders for me.
Favorite Gift to give a fellow teacher
Usually, if I am giving a gift to a fellow teacher, it is a fun t-shirt or a giftcard to Starbucks!
What is your favorite part of your classroom? I have a classroom/professional development room/office. But my favorite part of my room is The Best Part of Me Wall: Teacher's Edition. The teachers shared the best part of themselves as a teacher. It was fun!
Do you remember your dreams when you wake up in the morning?
Sometimes I do! Last night, I had a dream I signed a contract to make over 6 figures! This is when I think maybe dreams can see into the future. Only good dreams though...only the good ones. LOL.
