5 EdTech Literacy Programs You Need for Your K-12 Students

If you’re looking for ways to make your students better writers while engaging them in the curriculum, EdTech literacy programs may be able helpful resources. With many online tools, you can easily watch your students develop their skills with pre-made lessons and comprehensive data.

The tools I’ve selected are some of my favorites because they make writing fun, they’re based in common core standards or research, and they make instruction simple for the teacher.

Writable

This digital writing program, Writable, offers both assessments and practice to improve school writing programs through research-backed instruction and feedback for every teacher and student. This program works in a loop of assessment, practice, and feedback to help your students grow.

Storybird

With Storybird, students are taught with and inspired by art from over 1,000 global artists to become better writers. They offer courses, challenges, worksheets, and resource lists to help you help your students. Exceptionally inspired students are even able to continue learning and writing at home.

ABCya!

This digital literacy tool for students K-6 uses common core standards to create fun, interactive learning games your students will actually want to play. If you’re looking for something you can also take offline, they offer a variety of worksheets to keep your students engaged when avoiding screen time.

Night Zookeeper

On this platform, games, puzzles, challenges, and prompts will enhance your students’ vocabulary, understanding of language, and writing skills. My favorite part of this tool is that students are prompted to draw their own creature for the Night Zoo. This creature will then interact with them and be used to teach them throughout their personalized journey.

Hemingway App

This tool is fantastic for students have a basic understanding of language but who need support in honing their voice and writing more concisely. Students simply add their writing to the app, then Hemingway will highlight sentences that are lengthy, complex, or have errors. It will also highlight potential word replacements, weak phrases, passive voice, and more.

Are you planning to try out any of these tools, or do you already use them? Let me know below or tag me on social at @educators2educators. I would also love to learn about any other EdTech writing tools you use in the classroom!
